A Report: The effect of events on supply and demands

As updates of the the migration was released today, the mighty Eomon Matriarch is the closest to Ashi as it going to get for this year before moving south, with the Eomon herd following behind, and as the migration goes on, I want to take a closer look at an example of how mass hunting in events has on the market value.

Currently in the migration Longtooth are easily the most accessible when it comes to hunting, the lower levels can be hunted by many of the new and old players alike, with the lowest level being the Longtooth adolescent at level 4.

Animal Kidney Oil is one of the items that can be acquired frequently from the Longtooth. It does not need refining unlike hides, wools and skins and it more commonly used in crafting in its raw form.

At the start of the migration season we can easily see that the markup price falls drastically. The main reason for this drop is supply and demand, but there is a little more to this than meets the eye.

In the migration season many people will hunt Longtooth, and many people will acquire Animal Kidney Oil, and with many having Animal Kidney Oil, a number of them will try to sell their items quick on the auction offering lower prices than the people before them.

This happens when there is an oversupply of any resource, more supply means more people have that resources to sell, which means more competitors when selling.

However, this does not mean that there is less demand for that resources, in fact the exact opposite, any smart person who crafts would use this the chance to buy the resource they need when the price is low, secondly, a trader who understand when there is an over supply of an item will buy when the price is low and hold onto it until the price returns to an average level again.

As a hunters and a miner, understanding this will allow you to maximise the return you get from selling your loot, As a crafter understanding this will allow you to minimise the cost of the resources you need when buying.

Many traders will use this chance to use their PED to buy into to low value resources, which tends to cause other markets to raise in markup, the demands from crafters will still be there, but with less of a supply, market prices tend to raise. An items with hardly any sales, does not necessarily mean there are hardly any buyers, it could just as equally be a hard to acquire item, and if so, the markup would be greater.

Infested: Marcimex attacks

Marcimex are massive underground insects that have hardly ever been seen on the surface of Calypso, this month these insects have been have been found scurrying the surface attacking the local colonists. In fact this is such a rare occurrence that this is only the second time this has happened in recorded history since humans have landed on Calypso.

One Entropian xenobiologists has suggested the queen has been likely disturbed by the humans activities on the surface which could include a number of factors, such as the vibration from vehicles and mining probes.

He further adds that it would seem that the queen seems to be culling the weaker broodlings of the hive in a form of selective breeding to make the hive stronger, but it is unknown if this is for defense or offensive reasons.

Battle Simulator: Update

The battle simulator has been updated with a bigger prize pool, but the cost of entry has now raised up to 6 PED per play. The success of the battle simulator since its inception shows that it will be here to stay.

Transport Tokens: Rocktopia travel

Although last month I mentioned a statement from Mind Ark about not implementing transporter tokens, that has not stopped John Jacob Neverdie from implementing the start of his concept on his own planet Rocktopia.

Even though the first part of his project has been implemented, we are yet to see the second part of his plans to come to fruition. Neverdie stated as he wants to create online jobs within Entropia.

Other Small Updates: Spawning waves and loot

Many of the wave spawns have been updated across Calypso, this includes the robot invasion events on forts across Calypso, the invasions will continue to occupy an area until retaken by colonists.

Another change is to robots loots, Drokas and Drones will no longer drop animal muscle oil and calypso bone samples.

And finally, Pyrite prices are set to rise a little more as the supplies at a number of PvP areas have dropped to a rarer level.

New Social Media Journalist: Jason Journalist Levine

Mindark are introducing an official in-game social media journalist avatar called “Jason Journalist Levine” to Entropia Universe. Mindark has stated this avatar may mail or approach you in-game to check if he can use pictures/video/quotes in our social media.

Many people have commented this to be a great idea for further marketing Entropia Universe.

A personal comment: I wonder if this an attempt to emulate what I have been doing these last few years on and off on my own... one of the officials must of been browsing my site and thought... we can do this!

Apologies

I would like apologies for the slight delay of this issue of Entropiazine. Being the individual editor and publisher of this magazine sometime technical problems happen out of my control, and I know everyone likes things to be like clockwork.

Last night a major power cut stopped me from publishing Entropiazine online, but Luckily everything is now fine and with little delay this will get published for everyone to view.

Thank you to everyone who continues to support my efforts as an individual independent publisher in Entropia and thank you for your patience in this slight delay.

New Daily Token Mission: Lost Equipment

Stronger characters know that the gauntlet rewards lower level players with daily tokens, and being above a certain level yields none. On the Argonaut Island north of Camp Icarus at the Research Outpost there is a new daily mission.

The first mission is a simple mission, kill 25 Argonauts then the leaders above ground, then rescue the scientists from the cave on the island.
These Argonauts are a lower level of 3 to 4 and quite easy to dispatch, the mission reward is a small amount of universal ammo.

The next mission found here will be for the daily tokens and can be taken every 24 hours, It is recommended that a person is armoured and has a decent gun if going solo or a small team. You will find that the Argonauts will now be level 5 and a lot harder to take down.

The goals of the mission is to clear the cave of Argonauts and find some lost research equipment.

Explosive Projectiles: Explosive Debate

Lets have a look at the explosive projectile blueprint, I have been avoiding this article for months, mainly because it is already currently a big debate in the community for a long time.

For the last few years the explosive blueprint has not contributed to the general player based economy of Entropia, at one point in history these blueprints required materials acquired by the miners of Entropia, today you will find that the blueprint only required Nanocubes brought from the trade terminal.

Even though the explosive projectiles hits the hall of fame quite often which seem to draw new player to try hit the big one, the actual chances of this is very slim, leaving a lot of newer players in dismay.

I recommenced to use the explosive blueprint to grind skills and acquiring low level blueprints more than to make a profit. I have seen people with 90% success rate gets an actual return of about 70% at trade terminal value. With explosive projectiles never selling for above 101% this leaves a ton of people losing out.

Explosive weapons are also in a short supply, leaving hardly any demand for the ammo type.

Sweat reaching a PED

The lack of demand for vibrant sweat is causing the prices to constantly hit a new low every few weeks, this is one of many topic which is over discussed within the community for years, even I myself remember the sweat prices drop from 12 PED per K to 6 PED almost overnight after the mind force was removed temperately to today where prices can be just over a PED for a K. Even though the amount of sweat acquired per "Grab" has been lowered to alleviate this with no success.

The main reason for this is down to the fact that new players are constantly arriving creating more supply without an equal raising demand. An new players are the bread and butter for a games survival.

The original idea of vibrant sweat was to allow people to set their own value on the item itself, and with no demand and an over abundance of vibrant sweat it is relatively easy to acquire for a small price.

As the future goes on, unless there are major implementation for a higher consumption of vibrant sweat in the general populous, vibrant sweat prices will continue to fall... as for dropping below a PED in price, who knows, I think we may see that sooner than you think.
