Advanced Guide: General Overview

General Overview

A key part of being successful within Entropia Universe is recording and understanding useful bits of information, and using that information to make improvements to your what ever profession you decide to work on.

As a hunter, this would be keeping track of which animal produce what animal oils, skins, hides, extractors, components and other resources along with their location. Understanding which weapon, weapon attachments, healing tool, armour and armour plating is best for which situation will greatly increase your chance of success.

As a miners, this would be keeping track of the type of resource found along with its locations and depth. Different mining tools search at different ranges and depths, understanding which tool to use for the best depth will greatly increase your chance success.

In both hunting and mining, the cost of equipment can drastically effect the margin between profit and loss, not only in the cost of its use in ammo and degrade, but also the markup price you spend on purchasing the equipment. Unlimited tools tend to have a higher usage cost in ammo and equipment degrade, but can be repaired, where limited weapons has lower usage cost in ammo and equipment degrade, but once broken, it can not be repaired.

As a crafter, you want to keep track of prices on the market, the market prices can fluctuate. When buying resources to craft with, you want to purchase for the lowest possible markup, and when crafting, you want to craft products in demand with highest possible markup.

As a trader, you want to keep track of the prices of different amounts on the auction, along with the values they can fluctuate between. Stocking up on resources when prices are low and selling when prices rise is one posible way of making profit. Smaller amounts tend to sell for higher markup compared to a bulk amount on the auction, and street value tends to be below that.

Equipment Costs

Tracking of your ammo use and the degrade on your equipment will allow you to adjust your equipment to better suit the situation.

If you are a new at mining for example, the trade terminal mining tools is very cheap and cost hardly anything to use, which is perfect for new people, but their depth and range is very small, which will make it harder to find bigger deposits. Mining tools can also have enhancers and amps attached to the tool. You will also want to keep track of the degrade on the amp, and also keep track of the markup payed on enhancers.

When a enhancer breaks the trade terminal value is returned in the form of shrapnel, so when buying and an enhancer, you are only paying for the markup cost of the enhancer.

Hunting is slightly more complicated than mining in tracking costs, there is more equipment parts to track. The main bit of equipment is obviously the weapon. Weapons can have multiple attachments and enhancers attached to them, the attachments include laser sights, scopes and amps, each attachment degrades along with the weapon itself.

Hunters also have healing tools and armour equipment. The most basic healing tools are simple first aid packs, which heals people at close range, and degrades when healing. The more advance form of this is mind force healing, using mind force requires you to have an implant, healing chip, and mind essence as the ammo. Both the implant and chip degrades when using mind force.

Armour comes in seven parts, face guard, body harness, arm guards, thigh guards, shin guards, foot guards and gloves. Each type of armour has specific types of protection, impact protection, acid protection, cold protection and stab protection are a few examples. Armour protects a person from damage but degrades when taking damage.

Armour can also have enhancers and armour plating attached to improve the person's defence against specific attacks.

Keeping track of each part of armour degrade and it's own specific attachments is also important. Where one type of armour and plating may be good against one type of creature, it may be ineffective against another type of creature, which can lead to higher costs when hunting.

Crafting equipment is very different from hunting and mining equipment. Blueprints are the main tool in crafting, there are 3 types of blueprints, limited, unlimited and boosted blueprints. Unlimited blueprints are just like unlimited tools, you can continuously use them without them breaking, limited blueprints have a limited amount of uses before the blueprint breaks, and boosted blueprints are like limited blueprints, but have a high success rate.

With limited and boosted blueprints, you will want to keep track of how many uses remain on a limited or boosted blueprint along with its cost and markup. The main cost in crafting is the actual resources required to make a product. Boosted blueprints offer a high chance of success when crafting.

Testing, Failures And Success

You do not fail, you only found ways that do not work. Starting with no experience can be daunting, not knowing the items or their values and uses can be overwhelming, just like with any new experience. Asking for knowledge can be unclear, you see many people ask "What is a good creature to hunt?", but hardly anyone asks for further details, like "What equipment was you using?" or "Where was this hunting spot?". Even then, the few people who do have an edge, might be inclined to not share their knowledge, or mislead you.

True knowledge is gain in personal experience, with repeatable results over time. Doing one test and being successful, may not be repeatable, and doing one test and being unsuccessful, just as equally, may not be repeatable. After a few good tests, you can get a more general idea of highs, lows and averages. From testing something new, you will be able to find what works and what does not work, from what works, test further and refine your method.

Do not overestimate advice people do share, just as equally do not underestimate. Do not overstretch your budget testing bits of advice people have offered you, but do not ignore the advice, if you are able to test a new area in your budget, do it.

Be flexible and expect change, if you have found a repeatable successful thing, still look for other new successes, because small things in the universe change over time, and nothing last for ever. Once you have found something successful, use a part of that to find the next success thing. Once you have found a few successful thing, if one thing changes, you will be less concerned about it.

Your Level Of Control

Understanding what you have control over compared to what you do not have control over is important. You do not have control of the returns of each individual loot pot, but you have control of how much you put in and the ability to change target and location.

Some days your usual successful area might be low compared to normal, knowing this from previous knowledge acquired can save your PED from being drained on a bad run. If you feel like one of your successful spots is low, stop and change target or area.

What is also in your control is what you spend on equipment, ammo and resources, and what you sell your resources and products for. This is slightly in and out of your control, as a buyer, you will want the lowest markup possible, and as seller you want highest possible markup, generally speaking the market info screen for an item shows the average value between the highs and the lows of the sales on the auction.

Once you have acquired a good bit of experience and knowledge, you will be able to look at market prices and focus on the right targets and location to maximise your income potential. Some items are very common in crafting, these items tend to have a large amounts sold on the auction in trade terminal value and low average markup values on the market info screen. Animal eye oil and animal muscle oil are a few examples of common fast moving markets.

The rarely sold items on the auction tends to have a higher markup, if there is a demand for them at that time, these items are harder to sell in smaller amounts on the auction, and it is best to sell these items directly to another person or to save up a bulk amount for the auction. Unique skins and hides are good example of the slower moving markets, like Snablesnot skin and Exarosaur wool.

A really simple way to check if a market fast or slow moving is to search it on the auction, if there is only one page, it is likely to be a slow moving market, if there is more than one page, it is a faster moving market.

Try to avoid selling items to the trade terminal, this is one of the biggest well known ways to lose PED. The system is not always 100% in and 100% out, markup on items can make a big difference between winning and losing. Store everything and sell it to a player, sooner or later you will find a buyer who wants what you have to sell, it is just a matter of time.

Skills And Equipmentment Information

Needless to say your skill is also a big factor, the more skill you have the less likely you are to get hit and take damage, less cost on armour and healing, the more accurate you will be with your equipment, the less ammo and degrade you will waste on weak damage, misses and evasions.

You are able to view your skill with a tool or weapon on the item info screen. When looking at statistics of accuracy and damage, or depth and range, all the number on the right hand side of the "/" is the weapons maximum potential, all the numbers on the left side of the "/" is your ability with your skills when using that specific weapon or tool.

If you are not at maximum potential and you are not in any learning period for the gun, you are more than likely wasting PED. When you are in the learning period of a tool or weapon, you will be wasting a little bit of PED but gain and extra boost in the skill you will gain.

You can look at an items info before you purchase a tool or weapon to see if the statistics are appropriate for the skill you have. You can do this by right clicking a tool or weapon in the auction, shop or trade window and selecting view information.

You can also click on an [Item Link] in the chat window to view its details, viewing items via an [Item Link] will give you its default statistics, and will show the maximum trade terminal value for tools and weapons, and the trade terminal value of one item for stacked items. Using [Item Links] will not revile the statistics of the trade terminal value or stack size of what is in a persons inventory.

Shortage of technological components

Due to a shortage of technological components effecting the smaller colonies on Calypso, Consul Tiberius Calderon, the consul appointed by Omegaton, will be placing a number of orders on the auction in an effort to supply colonies experiencing acute shortages of technological resources.

Omegaton is one of the 3 major corporations on Calypso and the Federal Empire's official logistics company, although Omegaton was originally bidding for exclusive control over the original colonial contract for Calypso, it was unable to hold onto it, and the contract was shared with the two other corporations.

Genesis Star CEO Maximilian Wolfe says "The initiative is anything but generous, claiming the import-dependent colonies are being forced into a monopoly arrangement. No other importer can get near those planets, the Imperial Navy's got them surrounded. Only Omegan freighters are allowed in."

The accusations were denied by Tiberius Calderon, "The Genesis will say anything to discredit their competitors. It's pathetic."

Omegaton will also be offering the additional incentives to help the procurement effort, for each component, 100 PED will be awarded to the colonist who makes the largest contribution to fulfil an  order for each individual component, and 1000 PED will be awarded to the colonist who contributes the most total Trade Terminal value, of any combination of components.

Simple 4 Conductors - 12000 PED
Simple 3 Conductors - 60000 PED
Simple 2 Conductors - 160000 PED
Simple 3 Plastic Springs - 90000 PED
Simple 2 Plastic Springs - 112000 PED
Simple 3 Plastic Ruds - 17000 PED
Simple 2 Plastic Ruds - 110000 PED
Hardened Metal Ruds - 30000 PED
Basic Filters - 50000 PED

Event: Watch Out For Ped Snatching On Rocktropia!

Watch out the Ped Snatchers are about!

Upon entering all ROCKtropia Instances/Dungeons in addition to the Key Consumption a 20 PED fee is automatically deducted from your PED Card. This dungeon fee system has been added to support the addition of new Rocktropia Style events.

The Rocktropia team will be carefully observing the impact of the use of this system over the coming months to evaluate the success.

The launch of this event has not been well received, with many players being stung with no warning of the cost before entering these instances. Many people have chosen to fly away from Rocktropia due to this.

One user stated:
"UM this isnt right. no notice nothing. i lost 80 ped on top of the large key cost. even the lockpicks and instances in Hell are doing it."

Rocktropia staff have replied with:
"We will arrange for a refund for you Please PM ND inside RT"

With many individuals continuing to question this event, the Rocktropia staff have put out a general statement:
"Dungeon Managers will be able to Opt out of this system. The Idea is to actually add value to running Dungeons not to add to the existing cost for the sake of it... Once we get the events started it may work itself out so it might be worth taking a wait and see attitude... We actually were not aware that the Fee was charged to the Ped Card, we were under the impression it was deducted from the TT value of the Key... So we do understand the disappointment here. Which is why Dungeon mangers can opt out if we cant make the system equitable."

Rocktropia staff have stated that there will be a fix in the future to the lack of notice to PED being removed from the players card as soon as posible:
"In the Meantime we are hoping to add in world notification ASAP so that you know when Ped Snatcher is at large"

Guide: Sweating

This guide will teach you all about sweating animals within Entropia. The only tool that is needed is the VSE MK1, which every player gets right from the start, but a healing tool and a vehicle will be handy for this guide. (Valkyrie car can be acquired from Thule the tutorial area, and a Vivo S10 healing tool can be acquired from the gauntlet).

Note: The VSE MK1 can not be brought or sold, but can be put in storage, it is advised that you keep this gun on you at all time. If you go to another planet and leave your sweating device behind, you will not be able to sweat buy a new one, and the only way to get your one back is to go back to the planet you have stored it at.

Simple Sweating

To start sweating, simply go to the tools tab in your inventory (I on keyboard), and right click on the green round gun called the VSE MK1 to equip it. Then find a creature sweat,  click to target it, then press "F" key (Default), after a few attempts, you will see a green mist, this is the extracting phase.

In the extracting phase if you get hit or the creature moves out of your range, you will fail to extract. If you do not get hit and you keep the creature in your cross hairs for a few seconds, you will acquire some sweat.

After a number of extractions the creature will run dry on sweat, after this you will want to kill it, most people run to a turret and some shoot it, you can also drown the creature in water.

The skills you will gain while sweating are also valuable in a number of other professions, including hunting, mind force, and healing. With a tiny increase to other skills not related to these.

Group Sweating Locations

There are a number of locations where players sweat in a group to share damage to last longer, heal less and get more sweat. Overall this method will provide much more sweat in a shorter time but you will acquire less evade experience.

If the animal hits you, do not move and do not panic, it is not worth running, if the creature can hit you, it will hit you, moving does not effect your ability to evade a hit. If anything, the more you get hit, the more likely you will gain evade experience, the more likely you will be able to evade hits in future. The ability to evade is one of the more sought after skills for a hunter.

The easiest group sweating location to get to is Boreas. Teleport to the Isle of Troy then travel west to the edge where the land is no longer a solid green. From there you will be able to teleport or die and revive at Boreas. This is where a vehicle could come in handy.

Selling Sweat

The VSE MK1 does not degrade. You can use it as much as you want. This is one of the free abilities in Entropia, Sweat in itself is a valueless item to the system.
The value of sweat to a buyer depends on their needs for the sweat, and to a seller the value depends on their persistence to always be patient and look for a better price.

When it come to selling sweat, patience is a virtue, everyone has the ability to sweat, but not everyone has the ability to craft using that sweat, this means sweat is in a much higher supply than demand.

The best places to find buyers is at a group sweating locations, when a buyer wants to buy, the first thing they think is "Where are there lots of sweaters?".

These buyers tend to come and go in moments compared to how long sweaters sweat for at these locations. Calling out  "WTS Sweat" will not help, almost everyone wants to sell sweat.

The best thing you can do is to sweat a bit more to sell more for when that valuable buyer comes by, and when that buyer does come by, make a note of that persons name and their price, make a friend, and sell for the best price you can. Sweat is normally sold in stacks of 1000, check with other sweaters for the average selling price at the time so you know what to aim for and you are not undercutting yourself.

To learn more about trading in general click here.

Uses For Sweat

Last but not least, many new people wonder what sweat is actually used for. The top 3 uses for sweat are making mind essence, making welding wires and missions.

Mind essence can be made by mixing force nexus and sweat in a refiner. Force nexus is an energy matter that is mined. You are able to purchase a standard refiner from a trade terminal.

Some blueprints like the welding wire blueprint requires sweat along with other materials, welding wires are used like ammo with the vehicle repair tool to repair vehicles.

There are also a number of missions that require sweat to complete, a few examples of these are the Arkadia Passport missions and Missions Galactica.

Guide: Sweating

(Since VU16, this guide has become out of date. Click here for up to date guide!)

This guide will teach you all about sweating animals within Entropia. The only tool that is needed is the VSE MK1, which every player gets right from the start, but a healing tool and a vehicle will be handy for this guide. Auto Sweating

Sweating is as simple as that, but there are a few things that will make sweating so much easier.

The "Auto Use Tool" button! This will not only save your wrists, but will help in other things like shooting and repairing. To quickly set this up, press L to open the Edit Panel, press G to open up Keyboard Layout, then press Y to bring up the Action Library Book.

In the Action Library book write "Auto" into the search bar and then click on "Auto Use Tool", the page will turn, then drag "Auto Use Tool" to your screens heads up display or to a black keyboard key. Once you have done that, simply close all them windows. This button/key will allow you to toggle repeat fire mode.

You can learn more about the edit panel here:
Guide: Edit Interface

Group Sweating Locations

There are a number of locations where players sweat in a group to share damage to last longer, heal less and get more sweat. Overall this method will provide much more sweat in a shorter time but you will acquire less evade experience.

When sweating in a group of people, in the perfect situation, every one should stand in a circle around the animal, so that the animal does not run about to hit its target, causing failed extractions.
The creature should only need to turn on the spot to reach its next target.
If the animal hits you, do not move and do not panic, it is not worth running, if the creature can hit you, it will hit you, moving does not effect your ability to evade a hit. If anything, the more you get hit, the more likely you will gain evade experience, the more likely you will be able to evade hits in future. The event will run for an hour on Sunday the 4th of September at Fortress Invincible starting at 18:00 UTC.

Aim for the head for the most damage and good luck to everyone taking part!

Compet: Let's find a fight

This month arena battles has had a major update! It is now a great deal easier to find arena battles, you can now select a number or battle packs to search in the background as you manage your village.

Before you could be searching for hours on flicking between battle packs and not finding anyone, but now this option allows you to find people a lot easier. This feature will make the game run smoother from the players perspective when it comes to actually finding a battle.

As for other competitors in the current marketplace, pokemon go is going threw a big hype and during this period it would not be a great idea to market Compets.

There have been some questions regarding when deed holders will start receiving Compet deed revenue payouts, an official statement states:
"Payment of ComPet Deed revenue share to Deed Holders will commence once ComPet leaves the Beta stage. To those who are playing ComPet Open Beta, we thank you all for your continuing feedback!"
But with no sign of an official release date being announced, the date of the first deed payment is an unknown factor.

VR: Getting plugged in

This month Mindark announced that it is optimizing the Entropia Universe platform to fully support the Oculus Rift Development Kit 2, Valve and HTC's SteamVR and other immersive Virtual Reality platforms.

Entropia Universe will provide developers with solutions for monetizing a wide variety of virtual games and applications in addition to its own award winning multi-planet MMORPG universe.

David Simmonds, Entropia Universe head of business development stated:
"With Facebook's Acquisition of Oculus and Valve producing its own immersive experience with HTC, Virtual Reality is on the threshold of becoming the great entertainment medium of the new millennium."

Issue 5: Compet Beta.

Entropiazine

A Monthly Entropian E-Magazine.

In this month's publication of Entropiazine:
Compet: Deed prices and beta released.
President of Virtual Reality: Complaints about the election.
Hunting Season.

Author: [Felix Zell Shallow]

Compet: Deed prices and beta released.

This month has been a mixed month for the Compet game. The release date was held back seven days before the beta testing period of the game, although it is not the first time the date has been held back. In the last week deed prices went up on the web store from 100 to 120 PED per deed, a number of shop owners not knowing would of been a bit slow in reacting resulting in flash sales and at a loss compared to the new market price. Currently the deeds can not be brought from the web store while the close beta is running, the deeds can still be brought on the auction currently around 130 PED each.

The general reception of the game in beta is quite good overall, and if Mindark marketing goes well, Compet can become a great pet fighting game in years to come. Currently the game has inactive moment when it comes to battling other players, but this is due to the game being in beta and will have a limited user base. There has been a few small complained about equality of battle for newer creatures and the speed it takes for a player to level up their creatures.

Originally it was intended that Compet would be a close beta for the deed holders only, but anyone with the link to the beta game currently has access to it, as it is not currently not linked to Entropia anyone can sign up and play using an email account or Facebook, and a number of places have posted its download link location publicly.

In the ComPet Shop, players have the ability to increase their PED balance through real-cash deposits. Deposited PED can then be exchanged for gold and diamonds in ComPet. Gold and diamonds are ‘soft currencies’: they do not represent real-world monetary value. It is perfectly possible to play ComPet using only the soft currencies.

President of Virtual Reality: The people's thoughts.

This month has been a hard month for Jon Jacob Neverdie, many have slammed him and the election process in Entropia, leading many to think this was a self proclamation. Many people in the forums of Entropia have complained about the process of election, complaining that originally all voting process should of been handled in game with the old voting booths and that it was originally intended for deeds holders. Many people question the process and authenticity of the election and many people have complained about the fact that they could not put their money forward themselves to be apart of the process, along with the other two contenders having effectively zero information about their own campaign.

Jon Jacob Neverdie created an open post on Entropia forum to be slammed by the many people and their view on the teleporter charge along with other complaints about Entropia economy in general. Neverdie has........ A number of the older Entropians have even talked about boycotting Rocktropia altogether. The small amount of player who have decided to boycotting Rocktropia would have a very small to no effect on Rocktropia economy.

Other than talking to the Entropians, Neverdie has been on a press tour around about his campaign for creating jobs in virtual reality, a small amount of press has appeared about this, but not much in the way of headlining. A number of press articles exist just equally dismissing his claims for virtual jobs as a pipe dream at the cost of the average player.

Hunting Season.

This month Icarus was overrun by Marcimex deep from underground. The subterranean terrors have never been seen above ground! Sightings have even been reported from as far out as Jurra Plateau and around Twin Peaks. Many people hunted these creatures until they have now returned to their underground lair.

It is just over a month away until the migration season and many people are getting geared up to hunt the Eomons and Longtooths while they migrate. Keep a close eye on CDF pheromone reports of the migration paths.

Here is a recap of 2015 migration:

Longtooths:

67564, 83554 - Old.
66972, 83944 - Providers

In this week publication of Entropiazine:
Land: Recent changes on the map.

A chance to win 10 PED!

The recent changes to land on Calypso!

In the last month there has been a major overhaul of Camp Icarus and Corinth Province to the north. Camp Icarus has now been terraformed to be more convenient, you no longer have to run around massive metal crates up a hill to get to the outpost. The land surround the teleporter and the teleporter itself has been raised up to allow easy of access to the outpost.

The landing platforms at Camp Icarus beach are now open to the public. The ability to place your air vehicles on the landing platforms at the beach south of Camp Icarus will allow for a slight better take off for south bound flight, as Camp Icarus outpost itself is still a no vehicle zone.

To the north of Calypso, new people looking for half moon bay maybe slightly confused as the Half Moon Bay teleporter has now been relocated to the south, the old Half Moon Bay teleporter is now Half Moon Cove.

In last months issue of Entropiazine there was a tutorial for new people looking for free ammo, you would now need to go to Half Moon Cove to Cape Corinth to find the easy quests for free universal ammo along the road.

All new pets to tame on Calypso!

New animals have been discovered which has been the buzz for all the tamers on Calypso. Three new creatures have been seen just north west of the Atlantis Archipelago teleporter. The Atlantis Archipelago teleporter can be found south of Port Atlantis, The best way to travel there is by air, as it is a very long swim. A boat could also get you to the destination.

Simply travel north of the teleporter until you hit the beach at the other end of the island, then follow the beach east. The first animal you will see is the Corinthian Kanin, a rabbit like creature. Misleading in name, one would think you would find this creature closer to Cape Corinth by its name.

This animal is the easy one to tame of the three creature to discover in this area. Slightly harder to tame than a Bristlehog but still relativity easy.

Further up north from the Corinthian Kanin are the Eudorian Devil and Chirin Dragon. These two creatures are slightly harder to tame.

There are also rare shiny version of these pets, the Corinthian Kanin comes in a silver. The Eudorian Devil and the Chirin Dragon comes in sapphire.
